Report From Africa

Report From Africa

Dear Friends,

I have just talked to Kenneth Ochieng by phone in the Awendo District of Kenya.

Through Kenneth “Share His Love Missions” has been helping get food and medicine to lepers.  Some are nearly healed.  These lepers are now leading others to Christ.  Many of them have almost nothing to eat. Kenneth had an idea to build a pond in which to raise fish.  Some Kenyan volunteers dug the pond.  They had no money to stock the ponds.  SHLM supplied the funds to buy the “fishlings” (baby fish).  The fish are now almost mature and many will be ready to eat by August. This will be a big help to the lepers.

Kenneth reports that wherever he goes the response to the gospel is thrilling.  He tells about a small church in Kuria where we worked in February.  Though the church was several years old, it had only 4 members.  The people said they had to spend so much time tending their livestock and their gardens that they did not have time to attend church!!  After being taught about home churches their numbers began to explode. They have now started 110 home churches with 650 believers. Some of them have already moved to the third generation.  They witness in the corn and potato fields, while grazing their cattle and along the trails. They have taken up offerings to help pay some of Kenneth's expenses.  They are giving corn and potatoes to the lepers.

They have taken up offerings to help Kenneth go into a new area and train 6 pastors to start home churches.  He will be going there next week.

This work in the Lake Victoria area of Kenya has grown so rapidly that it is very difficult to get current statistics.  The workers there are trying and I hope to have some statistics soon.  I did receive a report from Joseph Gaya this morning.  (He is the pastor who vigorously opposed Home churches at first) He reports that in May he started 120 Home churches, baptized 98 believers and trained 112 new believers to start Home churches.

“Let us praise the Lord together on our knees”

 Love, Max and Neysa
